At the Northwest Mountain Minority Supplier Development Council, we believe that real impact is more than what you see in the moment; it is what continues long after the connection is made, after the contract is signed, after the first opportunity is opened. That belief is at the heart of our work, and this year it is powerfully reflected in our 2024 Economic Impact Report.
This report is not just a collection of numbers. It is a story of momentum, resilience, and partnership. It shows the direct and extended impact that our certified Minority Business Enterprises have had across the region and the country through their innovation, leadership, and contributions to the economy.
A Shared Effort That Reflects Shared Values
To bring this report to life, we partnered with Supplier io, whose team supported us through data analysis, modeling, and report development. Using the IMPLAN economic modeling system, they helped us uncover the full scope of our network’s economic impact at the direct, indirect, and induced levels. We are grateful to their team, especially Jace Harvey and Marjorie Ramos Cintron, for their collaboration and care throughout the process.
A Look at the Results
In 2024, our 390 certified MBEs contributed:
• 15.5 billion in total economic output
• 62,244 jobs supported across the United States
• 5.8 billion in total wages earned
These outcomes are the result of meaningful procurement relationships, inclusive sourcing, and the power of diverse businesses that are ready to meet the needs of a dynamic market.
Local Impact, Regional Strength
Our work spans seven states and the results show a clear footprint of impact.
In Washington State:
• 10 billion in total output
• 37,600 jobs supported
• 3.9 billion in wages
• 20,700 individuals employed directly by NWMMSDC certified MBEs
In Oregon:
• 785.6 million in total output
• 4,000 jobs supported
• 295.6 million in wages
In Utah:
• 268.2 million in output
• 1,600 jobs supported
• 91.7 million in wages
Every dollar spent with our certified MBEs supports not only a business but a network of suppliers, employees, and communities.
Understanding the Ripple Effect
This report also helps visualize how impact flows through the economy in three ways:
- Direct impact from goods and services provided by MBEs
- Indirect impact from their purchases from other businesses
- Induced impact from the wages spent by employees throughout the supply chain
This ripple effect affirms that when minority owned businesses grow, they generate value far beyond their own operations.
Why This Matters
For more than four decades, NWMMSDC has worked to create meaningful opportunities for minority owned businesses. We have seen firsthand that supplier diversity is not just a policy or a program; it is a pathway to economic equity and shared prosperity. The data in this report validates what we already know to be true: inclusive business practices strengthen local economies, support job creation, and increase resilience for everyone involved.
What Comes Next
This report marks the completion of a key initiative, but it also serves as a foundation for future strategy, partnership, and advocacy. We will continue to use these insights to inform our programs and shape the next chapter of our work.
To our certified MBEs, we thank you for the trust and excellence you bring to this network. To our corporate and community partners, we thank you for your continued commitment to economic impact.
